Usenet Newsgroup Terms - Base64
Base64 is a base-64 MIME content transfer encoding that uses the characters A-Z, a-z, and 0-9 in that order for the first 62 digits. In order to view and download headers for certain Usenet newsgroups, its necessary to retrieve the information from newsgroups in this format. Modified versions of this extension exists which replace default characters in order to work better with unified systems to translate. As an example, XML coding, most popularly known for not only generating RSS feeds, but also to generate lists of headers that correspond to news readers require a variant of this encoding process to properly replace default characters to a similar syntax.
